[MUSIC] ENGEL: Have you ever heard of a hydrometer? Have you ever heard of a geodimeter? Have you ever heard of a RA Trimble System? My name is Private First Class Robert Engel. I'm a 12 Tango Technical Engineer. I'm a proud member of the U.S. Army. Technical Engineer is a survey and design soldier. Our job starts with going to actual jobsite with an idea. We will gather soils for analysis, and we'll do an initial survey so we have a rough idea of the terrain and the layout of the land. And then we will take that information back and design something that actually fits that area, like designing schools, hospitals. And every aspect of that involves math, science, all kinds of calculations that most people never have to do. It's rewarding to know that you're helping people that don't have the means to do it themselves. I knew that in order to be successful, I needed to go to school. I decided to get a couple jobs. I worked overnight at a warehouse. I worked at the local grocery store. For me, life just got real monotonous. I was tired of working multiple jobs and not seeing an improvement in anything. So the Army was a window of opportunity that I couldn't find anywhere else, with the tuition assistance and the GI Bill. One of my first priorities is to finish my bachelor's degree. After that, I'm gonna try to get my master's. I have a lot of friends that graduated with four-year degrees, and they have nothing but student loans hanging over their heads, with no job to help pay them back. For me, I have technical skills that I can use as soon as I get out and turn them into a career. Life is like an endless [inaudible]: always climbing, always trying to better yourself. The Army is an elevator. It's taken me leaps and bounds further than anything I've ever experienced in the civilian world. I think I might make a career out of this. I love my job. I love the Army. I love everything about it. I love the people. I love going new places. I love the rewarding factor that it gives me every morning when I put this uniform on. As a 12 Tango, I'm not just building roads and buildings and schools; I'm making the world a better place. And it's nice to, to feel like, like you did something great. [MUSIC]
